Graphics card issue, maybe?

Hey

Recently when I turn my machine on it starts up, reboots, starts up, reboots then finally starts up and loads to Windows 7.

Once in windows everything is fine but for example my FPS in games is quite bad unless I turn off v-sync. Also when I alt tab out of full screen applications the music distorts.

The card I have is a 8800 GTS 512. I have just got a can of compressed air to give my PC a spring clean but not sure if it is a graphics card issue or it's something else.

Any advice will be much appreciated!

Before you get a flurry of people trying to school you on what v-sync is, I think you should try to explain the symptoms of having v-sync on and bad frame rate. It is possible that what is happening is that at times you are not getting to the sync rate of the monitor so your frame rate is halving, where as it will just carry on pumping out the frames at whatever speed with v-sync off. But we won't know what to say until you explain the situation a bit more :-)

Also, your card is quite limited nowadays, especially with such low memory.. what games and resolution are you playing please?

Are you using on-board sound? What's the rest of your computer spec please?

My PC Spec is

Intel Quad Core 2.4ghz
8800 GTS 512
2GB ram
500GB HDD
Onboard sound

I actually got it from OC UK and it was called the Titan Elite GTS

I game with a resolution of 1440x900

I would play Wow or Black Ops without any issues with v-sync enabled and I was getting a steady 60FPS with high settings and 40-50 FPS in Black OPs.

Now with v-sync my fps ingame is very low and is unplayable at times but turning it off makes gameplay possible with an fps ranging from 100-200.

My sound whilst music is playing you can hear faint crackling on occasion.
