Graphics Card Issue

Hi everyone, here is the situation I have upgraded my card from a gtx 460 to a Asus Nvidia GeForce 2GB GTX 670 DirectCU II Graphics Card. I can play games for a few hours if that and then either the game will lock up and I have to kill the process or my computer will lock up.

I thought it was an issue with the card so I have already took the step to return it and replace it. However just before I did I thought I would try it on my brothers computer and it seems to run everything fine. So I put my old card back in just to make sure and with this in everything is fine.

I will be getting the exact same card as a replacement so I thought I would make sure of a couple of things anyway.

As far as I am aware PCI express 3.0 cards are backwards compatible, is this correct?? Finally as I am not 100% sure on what power supply is efficient and I read around a bit and it seemed mine would be plenty for one card is my PSU powerful enough. Spec Below:

i5 2500k
asus p8z68-v
4gb memory(cant remeber make)
antec truepower 650w <- this is what I am concerned about if anything

Thanks

Your PSU is ample for your system and gpu, but it does not rule out if it's at fault though.

Can you test your system with another PSU?

I totally understand that. I should be able to get hold of a power supply. My pc was upgraded this year with all the parts above and has been running fine and it is used everyday which is why I assumed GPU issue.
