Seems my old ATI 9800 Pro has died (getting horrible graphics distortions on most software after a few minutes and it's not the monitor).

I've tried reseating and new drivers and it's made no difference so I guess it's now time to get a new card.

Thing is I haven't been keeping up with this stuff since I got the PC (over 2 years ago) and I don't know what's available that will offer me a similar amount of power.

All I really use the PC for is desktop work and World of Warcraft, prefer the card to be as cheap as possible but enable me to do what I need to without having to scale WoW down.

Anyone help ?

Check the HSF. My old 9800Pro did exactly that but replacing the heatsink make it work perfectly...

If you're set on a new card, you might try an X800GTO, but depends on your price range really...

As Arterion said depends on your budget, but the X800 GTO has a extra 4 pipes then your old card so you will be able to increase the perfomance of WoW rather then scale down.

Checked the machine over and it looks like Arterion is spot on. Dust all inside the machine and the distortion only occurs if I start a game. Installed various drivers and tried both OPENGL and DIRECTX settings but nothing. If I stay in Windows the machine works fine.
