Graphics card just died?

Hey guys,

Been running my new rig for the last couple of weeks with no issues at all, been fantastic. Unfortunately earlier while running a quick benchmark on my graphics card I got a blank screen followed immediately by a reboot, checked the event logs on startup and it shows a bluescreen error. Figuring it could have been the newest graphics drivers I reverted back and ran the test again. Before even starting this time the drivers had recovered, I rebooted manually and the same thing happened again.

Took the graphics card out of the case and gave it a good clean. After putting it back in I can't get any display and the BIOS shows the PCIE slot empty when running the onboard graphics.

I've just pinched a spare graphics card and am using it fine at the moment, I've also tried the graphics card in a different computer.

Now here's the strange part, it shows no display in the other computer BUT does boot into Windows fine.

I don't understand it, any advice greatly appreciated before I start the search for a new graphics card.

Asrock Z77E-ITX so no can't try another slot. Have another graphics card in there at the moment and it works fine.

Testing the graphics card in question in another PC doesn't show anything on screen but DOES boot into Windows fine as I can hear the Windows startup sound.

you tried a different out on the gfx card?

Tried both DVI's from two different monitors/cables. 100% it's not a connection issue as the same monitors/cables are working with the other graphics card.

i take it gfx card shows signs of life? fans spinning etc?

The fan does spin and of course Windows does boot (Surely it wouldn't boot at all?)

Why would windows not boot? Windows booting isn't dependant on the gfx card working. or do you mean it should fail the post?

in original PC

tried?

reseting the bios (removing battery from mboard)

Is bios fully up to date on the second computer?

what gfx card is it?

The post should surely fail without a graphics card? I've reset the BIOS on both computers, both computers have an up to date BIOS.

The graphics card is a GTX 570, it's been working fine for since I've had it (About a year and a bit) and has been working in the new build for the last couple of weeks.

hm yeh but it could be damaged to a point not totally broken ><
if that makes sense to you

I've had graphics cards go before but it's normally the memory controller which pops first.

Sounds like you've done everything you can mate? no warranty left to rma it?

also post would still go through with or without gfx card. if gfx card was faulty it would switch to onboard. if gfx card sint present would default to onboard.

Pretty sure no warranty left unfortunately.

The second computer doesn't have onboard video so shouldn't it halt at post?

im not 100% sure on that

if i had to take an educational guess id say it would still boot POST is more about detecting a problem with hardware rather than mising hardware so would still let windows boot.

someone else can confirm that

Well I'm running on the iGPU now *Sigh*

No games for me for a while I guess, thanks for your help. I hope MSI play ball, hoping I'll get some sort of replacement/compensation.
