Graphics card killing monitors?

I had a really strange problem recently, the route to solution was onerous to say the least but the fault was with my monitors DVI port not working - dsub worked fine, but no DVI. Quick call into Samsung and a replacement was dispatched, which has been working well for the last month or so. Until tonight where I am, for not apparent reason, unable to select the native resolution of the screen...The max I could select was 1280X720.... I reloaded the monitor drivers, graphics card drivers and even tried a different PC - all to no avail...Tried D-sub and it now works at its native res.

Now the question - is my graphics card killing DVI ports - or is it just a coincidence?

Many thanks

Baldrick

I cant see how a graphics card could damage a monitor, it just wouldn't display if it wasn't happy - are you using up to date graphics drivers from the net?

You shouldn't need monitor drivers, it should be plug'n'play.

Maybe its a bad line of monitors, I would request a different model if you return it again - have you googled for issues with that particular model?

Can you use a different monitor and/or DVI cable to isolate the issue?

Sorry not much help, but its all I can suggest..

You never know tbh, I've once a had a motherboard that was killing any PSU as soon as you'd plug it in and try to start it. It's killed 4 of my test PSUs and then 2 of the guys at the shop before they decided to exchange it for me haha. Luckily everything been RMAd and exchanged for new.
