Thinking of purchasing this card to replace my old Palit 8800 640MB GTS...

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-051-OK&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=877

If you read the reviews section theres lots of comments about how long this card is. Is it really that much longer than my existing 8800 because I'm slightly concerned about whether or not its going to fit into my case?

The dimensions are listed as 27.5cm but more than once people have said that its over 30cm long! which is kinda worrying.

Thanks.

You sure you fancy a GTX? I dunno, it's an excellent card but upgrading to 1+ year old tech when the new cards are a few months away seems to be a little weird to me. May turn out unwise.

I'd just go for a GT or GTS 512 and save yourself some money until the next gen.

Unless you have money to burn, of course :p

The GT and 512mb GTS are 1+ year old tech to though, and so are the new cards that are coming in a few months. :)

Even if the 9800 GTX is just a die shrunk 8800GTX with higher clocks etc it'll still probably be worth it. Anyways, what about R700 too? That's all new, right?

Not worth shelling out for a GTX at this stage unless you really, really need it for higher resolutions. A G92 GTS can be had for £50 less than that GTX he linked to and then a GT will see savings of closer to £90 (don't tell the OCUK ninja squad I said that though).

Oh boy, here we go again :).

I wondered why you didn't reply to the last post about the G92 and G80 as being the same tech.

Yes the GTX is 1+ year old tech but the GT and GTS isn't unless a faster core, faster shader clock and a cut bus is a sure sign of what was on the GTX. Yeah right.

Obviously depends what case you have. GTX fits in my Antec P180 without a problem and I dont have to remove any hard drive enclosures to accomodate it.

ps.

Why cant some of you guys just answer the OPs question without getting into mind-numbingly boring arguments?

The OCUK forums are among the worst Ive seen for inane bickering and oneupmanship.

Not this again, the G92 is over 1 year old tech, G92's are 8800's, we have been buying 8800's since November 2006 ffs!!!.

The G92 and the G80 are the exact same tech, just the G92 is that exact same 2006 tech on a new smaller process, had its bus cut down to 256bit, and had some units enabled/disabled, jesus, why the **** can you not grasp it, i give up i really do, the GT and new GTS are not new tech, ive now lost the will to live. :(:(:(:(

The GTX is 275mm, so just measure to make sure you have enough space. :)

This compatible case guide may help :- http://www.tosk.co.uk/8800/

I'm not going to even reply to your insulting post as it seems your maturity is slipping away from you. I'll just let you read this instead http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10991683&postcount=116.

If you are going to reply to me then please do so in the thread above and try to not spit the dummy out as I can't be bothered with insults, especially from you ;).

Mike Gunnz the OP's answer was given and I disagree with Loadsa's view on the G92 being old tech. It's not onemanupship or anything like that at all. Everything was friendly between me and Loadsa until he responded like he has above which I'm not going to even entertain. We were debating on that thread from my link above and he stopped posting after I replied. Now when I see a post saying something that we still haven't agreed on then I see that as the wrong information and now with my link above people can see our discussion and decide for themselves.

I'm really sorry gobrun for doing this. Some of Loadsa's last post tells you the information needed.
