Graphics card making screeching noise

My graphics card makes an electrical screeching noise when i play games like skyrim, is this a fault of the graphics card or something else?

Yep most likely this. I have crossfire and one of my cards does it, but only in the first PCI-E slot, if i put it in the second PCI-E slot its silent. Explain that one gpu boffins.

Try turning on VSync if you haven't already.

Mine does exactly the same, gigabyte 580 overclock special edition, on skyrim too. I thought it was the fan catching on something but it only happens when its clocked to 890mhz. Didnt know if it was faulty.

If it happened at stock clocks, then i'd say RMA it, but i don't think Gigabyte will take the RMA as it only happens when OC'd

Nah doesn't happen when it's at factory settings, to get it stable at 890 I had to push 1.13 through the core. Doesn't happen straight away, but after a while it sounds a lot like a knackered fan bearing.

Pulled back a bit to 850, which works at 1.075, and no squealing. Didn't give it a second thought after that tbh.

my VTX3d 7970 squeels like a pig, but only when benching, good overclocker though so its not a sign of a bad card as far as im aware.


scared the **** out of me first run through, thought i had a duff card, but its fine stock
