I've just recently upgraded to a Ryzen 1700 @ 3.9Ghz but still using my old Graphics card - GTX960 4Gb. The card is actually not bad at 1080p
However, I've just discovered "Nvidia Surround" where I can extend my desktop to my 3 DELL U2414 monitors for gaming to 5760x1080p. Now my poor 960 is screaming!

I've managed to get away with the upgrade to Ryzen from a Sandybridge quite well from the Mrs ££ perspective, so the budget for a new graphics card will be limited.

Question is what do I need? is the resolution of the 3 monitors similar to the load of 1440/4k or greater? Would a second hand 980/980ti suffice or am I looking more of a step up?

Games playing: - Dirt Rally, GTAV, Doom, Planet Coaster

Thanks.

Well 1440p is 3,686,400 pixels and a regular 980 would be good enough for that (it's what I currently game at using a 980). 4K is a massive step at 8,294,400 pixels and requires a 1080 Ti. The res you've stated comes in at 6,220,800 pixels, so I'd hazard a guess and say you'd get away with a 980 Ti for the games you've listed but you're probably going to have to start sacrificing detail levels.

I'm running 5760x1080 nicely with the games you mention on my 3Gb 780ti, I lower textures on GTA V mind you.

For my upgrade I'm deciding between a 980ti or 1070, most likely will go for a 1070 as at this resolution the extra VRAM will probably help further down the line with new releases.
