Graphics card nomenclature

What do the accronyms on the end of some graphics cards stand for?
eg: GT GTS GTX etc.
because I doubt very much that these are grand tourer graphics cards, unless its a metaphore or something.

Marketing speak. That's it. Stands for nothing at all, just sounds cool.

Really? I knew they would be just for effect, but I thought they would have at least claimed some meaning - just so it didn't seem so stupid!

I saw a car with SLi on it the other day too, but both applications have definitions, but I thought it was very coincidental.

they take the terminology from cars, as speed is both an asset in both products.
