Graphics card not working

i just got a tech guy to come round and he said the graphics card could be dead as the graphics gets power but no image nd the onboard graphics works do you think thats the case? and also does the graphics card work with the motherboard?

Are the 2 6/8 pin connectors inplace?

Is the GPU seated correctly?

What adapter are you using to which port?

I assume all the power connections were connected to the card, try checking the motherboard BIOS revision and see if there is a updated version on the Gigabyte website.

i no its all wires fine and everythings in plase but i dont no what adapter to what port, this is my first build so i dont really understand lol

Was the 7970 working previously or is it newly installed?

Which model of 7970 have you got and what cable are you trying to use. DVI? Dual or single link.

Just the normal 7970 i no it has 3 fans on the top cost £319 and im using hdmi cable that didnt work so dvi to hdmi as well

Do you think i should install all updates and drivers to my pc will that make it work

in the bios its set to auto so it should change when graphics card is put in

And are the Gigabyte boards the ones that need the bios update for some cards? Cant remember exactly but I'm sure I read something on here

I'll repeat which model of a 7970 do you have? Theres no such thing as a normal one because there are different companies selling them, ie a Gigabyte WTF version, HiS IceQ etc

Are you connecting it to a monitor or tv? You might experience some problems connecting it to a tv if you dont have the correct adapter. Cant remember if you need a passive or active one.

Edit. Good point have you updated your BIOS to the latest version.

erm well since i got it i aint done no updates, as we speak on using the onboard graphics to do all driver updates and windows but how do i do a bios update? ive used a tv and a tv monitor

You need to plug the monitor cable into your new 7970, then goto AMD's website and download the newest GPU drivers.
