Hey

Just something that started yesterday - I had a quick game of painkiller and in the middle of the game I got a voice warning about some hardware fault

Wasn't too sure as I've never had any problems with my graphics card before, but I ran 3dMark and now that stops after the 3rd test - screen dies and computer locks.

Is it overheating?

Card is a Asus X800 XTPE, overdrive shows temp as 45 idle, and after 2 min of painkiller it was 60+.

Any ideas? Thanks

Raz

60 deg C isn't overly hot for a graphics card, plenty of people have temperatures up to 90 deg C perfectly normally.

It is possible that your card isn't getting enough power now and that is causing the problems. Have you changed anything recently?

hey

No, that's just it - haven't changed a single thing. Haven't added any hardware or made any software changes. Any utilities to monitor the card while running 3dmark or something?

thanks

ati tray tools lets you set up a hot key so when in games you can press it and see info like gpu temp, system mem usage and others.

60*C is high for the ASUS X800XT PE, ive got the same card (AGP) and they are very sensitive to high temps, pick up a Zalman and fit that to it, did a world of good to mine and is much more stable.

I think the first game of BF2 i had on my card it overheated (no artifacts or nothing, just exits game) then got a zalman and "viola" fixed.

My temps are 30*C idle, 44*C Load.

Hope if you choose to get a zalman that it works out for yeh.

But by the sounds of it, it may be something else in your system.

Possible PSU starting to struggle and fail? Clean out PSU with compressed air as a precaution.

The exact thing used to happen to me, until i changed to a PC power and cooling 510 DLX. It replaced an enermax 465.

hey, thanks for all the replies :)

Not sure why the temp would start affecting it now, since I've had it there's been no issues.

PSU? Maybe...It's an old enermax, had it for a number of years so maybe it's the one thats on it's way?
