Im pretty sure i should be ok to just upgrade my gpu first and see what happens

I currently have an i5 2500k at 4.5 with an azrock z68 or something motherboard

Im debating upgrading my 970 to a 1070 but now wondering if i will see any negative impact in regards to bottlenecking etc? ( a term, if im honest, that i dont know much about)

Im fairly certain its ok to just go gpu first as the other bits tend to hold up quite well but im just wondering

1070 first.

Doubt your CPU is bottlenecking.

99% of games I play these days are GPU locked.

Upgrading the cpu will have a marginal effect, depends if you want other features a more modern board would offer. Otherwise I'd expect a bit of a boost from the 1070.

Have you got a ssd? That'd be the most effective option if not.

For graphics experience you might actually see better improvement from a Gsync monitor than from a more powerful gpu. What Monitor do you have?

You really won't see a huge jump from a 2500k to a 6600k and it's unlikely to have any impact on games. A 1070, on the other hand, will make a night and day difference compare to a 970, especially if you're looking at 1440p at any point.

Hi thanks for the advice! My monitor is a 25" dell 1440p cant remember the name but quite a popular one

May just go for the 1070 then! The 2500k has proven a beast :D
