Hi,
I am going to upgrade my system I have a AMD64 4000 san diego cpu

4g ram ddr

160 HD

NVIDIA 8800gts pci exp.

I am thinking of going for a " Asus GeForce GTX 285 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express " Would this be a good upgrade ,its for a pc that I play games on exclusively.Duo core cpus that I can afford dont seem to boost me more than my single core very much.
I play strategy and rts games like Company of heroes , world in conflict etc.
I would appreciate any comments .thanks;)

I'd get a 4890 or 275, cheaper and likely to last as long as a gtx285 given that a new range of cards are due out soon from both vendors and you could put the money that you save aside and put it towards a cpu upgrade in the future.

Your system will be very top heavy on the GFX side and I cant see the point of using such a powerfull card with a such a dated system.

Its not really about how many cores you have, but how powerfull one is. Some games show improvements when using more than one core but the difference can be minimal. I'm sure world in conflict runs better on a dual core.

You have to remeber that the Core2 range is sort of factory underclocked, if you are looking a stock speeds then Core2 can look disappointing especially compared to a low latency DDR 1 939 rig.
