Graphics card output switching problem

My GTX570 has started to switch from one DVI output to the other by itself. This mainly happens at start up although I've just noticed it during normal operation when the screen had gone into power save mode.

What generally happens is that, on start up, the splash screen appears followed by some of the usual other stuff then the screen goes blank. If I then unplug the monitor cable from the DVI output and plug it into the other one the picture reappears.

I have tried a clean install of the latest nVidia driver but no change.

Any thoughts anyone?

Further to the above, it's not a DVI port switching problem. The screen can be restored by unplugging the lead and plugging it back into the same port. It can also be restored by switching the monitor off and on again.
Also, the monitor is going into power save mode by itself. despite the fact that I have disable screen power saving in Control Panel. The monitor is a Samsung 2232bw and there is mention of a built in power saver in the manual. According to this manual the screen should restore on a key or mouse button press however this isn't happening. Combining all this with the fact that I am getting screen flicker which reportedly can be down to faulty capacitors could it be that the whole problem is down to a dodgy monitor? (I.e., an opportunity :) )
