Graphics card power connector

I am giving a mate my GTS 450. His power supply does not have a 6 pin connecter for the card. Would one of these be ok to use?

Depends on his PSU.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as the PSU has enough power on the 12v rail(s)

They will be ok to use, they get supplied with cards for instances where PSU's are being used without sufficient connectors.

I have now fitted the graphics card and the power adapter.

Should I have both white connecters connected to the power supply?

At the moment I only have one connected and the card is is installed and working ok nut I am worried I should be using both.

Using both just means you can deliver more current (and so the wires don't melt). As the GTS 450 is a relatively low-power card with a maximum power usage of 105W - it shouldn't need much more than the 75W delivered by the PCIE slot most of the time.
