Graphics card prices

Hello All,

Looking to put a build together, I have all my parts in a cart other than a Graphics card, i'm looking at these older cards (AMD 7xxx series, Nvidia 4xxx series) and wondering when the prices will drop?

For example, now Nvidia have dropped the new 5 series, will a 4070 TI Super drop soon?
Same with AMD, will the 7900 ect drop, and if so when?

Any help is appreciated, I wan to put a build together ASAP but don't want to be too hasty, buy something them see a 100/200 pounds drop in the price of a card a week or two later.

It’s unlikely they will drop in price on the Nvidia side they will just likely not be restocked.

The Rx 6900 series received some good discounts previously but it’s questionable if that will happen again given the 9070 isn’t seen as a direct replacement for the 7900 XTX for example.

It's hard to say.

When the 7000 series released, OCUK had loads of clearance 6000 series cards 6950xt was going for 500-550. It was too this day I'd say the best value card you could get.

It's possible you will get some clearance cards.

However it's worth noting AMDs new cards should be around the 450-500 mark.

Based on expected performance if you end up getting a 7900xt you should expect to pay no more than 450-500 imo any more and it's just not worth it.

Thank you. I agree the AMD cards will be on par with the 7900 XT from what we understand. Big question is when will the card prices come down. I don't have 2 months to wait, my PC is dead.

Nvidia 5090/5080 end of the month.
5070 I think next month.
AMD hasn't actually announced anything yet.

You will be waiting a minimum of 1 month worst case, when the 7000 series release the old clearance cards were restocked periodically but not until a month of so after the 7000 series released.

Honestly if you desperately need a card you will have to suck up the current prices, I would expect March onwards if there's any old stock to clear and that's a big IF they have been clearing stock levels for over a while now so they may not even have anything.

There is a 7900xt for 600 which isn't a bad price, but i don't know how that will compare to the 5070 which could be close in performance and cheaper.

It's really really difficult time to do anything until the reviews are out as this is the transition period between the two generations, sorry can't be much more help!

The 7900xt is on par with the 4070ti and significantly cheaper.

It's just we know the 5070 is cheaper than both when released, and we don't know how it performs 4070ti vs 5070 in raw performance.

I may just get a 7800 XT and wait 6 months then go big when all reviews are out. Not sure what else I can do at this exact moment in time.

Another option, if you just want something to keep you going get a 2nd hand card.

I still use a 1080ti until end of the month and that's perfect, no idea what they sell for now but I would expect you can get one for 100 or so, then go all out in 6 months and get a better card, save now get better later.

Stock is minimal to none existent on 40 series, so I doubt there will be deals as demand is still present for regular day to day business.

So if any deals happens the only cards in strong supply seems to be 4070 Super, so there MIGHT be deals on those potentially, but 4090 is sold out, 4080 is nearly sold out, 4070 Ti nearly sold out and 4070 Super is still in supply so could be deals.

Now of course I don't know the stock situation at every distribution or if NVIDIA still has 40 series in transit to some board partners, so if a bulk of stock does land with AIB's and distributors in a week or two then some may panic and fire sell them off which could create deals but nowadays stock is generally much cleaner and transitions to new products better controlled so old series crazy deals happens less and less nowadays as stocks are generally run tighter and smarter to avoid having to sell old products at losses.

Thank you for all the replies, I appreciate it. I was going to wait for AMD to release more info but after some online research that's a while away.

Ive got a build ordered now and I'm excited because its been a very long time since ive upgraded my setup, I'm currently running a i5-66000k & NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB.

Looking forward to putting it together now to be honest.

Cheers for the transparency Gibbo. I appreciate it and I’m sure many others do too. Just out of interest, what’s the stock like on the red side of things?

Such sad times.

Used to love the firesales on previous gen GPU's :(. You could always pretty much guarantee getting a stonking deal around or just after the new gen came out.

Those were the days.
