Graphics card issues

Ok so ive just recently done a custom build with some help from this forum on the hardware to choose now since ive had serious problems with my graphics card. Running a 8800GTX and all ive been getting is hard lockups and freezing problems i know its a known issue as ive been searching for answers but to no avail.
At one point i was running windows vista and all i was getting was the above freezing/lockups but with the BSOD and that was apparently due to the drivers not being out. Since i decided to go back onto xp and im still having issues i really dont know what to do next im here as a last resort. Please help :(

Why have you decided it is the graphics card? Have you run another graphics card on the system and had no issues?

If not then:

What are the temps like? (mobo/CPU etc)

Have you run memtest (on the memory obviously)?

Seagate SeaTools (hardware diagnostics)?

Checked the PSU voltages idle and under load?

Sorry for the newbish question im fairly new at this how do i go about doing the above ive found memtest thats pretty simple were can i find the rest of the diagnostic tools i somone can point me in the right direction that be much appreciated.

Temps use something like Asus Probe, Everest or Speedfan (and the BIOS, for CPU temperatures use CoreTemp or Intel TAT). Seagate diagnostics are on the Seagate website under support/downloads and "SeaTools".

For voltages use Asus Probe, Motherboard Monitor (MBM) and the BIOS (remember they can't be relied upon, except to show large variances, i.e. +12v rail dropping to +11.1v under load).
