Graphics card problem??

Does this sound like a gfx card issue:

When my PC is booting up (Win XP logo) there is nothing but pixelations all over the screen. All different colours flashing on and off - infact you can barely see the WinXp logo!!

When it gets to the desktop though its fine.

Any ideas??

Have you tried it on a different monitor? could just be that your monitor doesn't like the low resolution of the windows splash screen.

Not tried a different monitor.

It has only been happening in the last few months. The previous three years on the same monitor have been fine.

is it like a multi coloured screen all through the bios? What mobo do you have?

I have a very similar problem with my mobo.... but as you say it gets into windows and its fine, so ive not really been bothered enough in investigating into what might be the problem. I prosume its more a mobo related problem than graphics card. but thats only a wild prosumption.

As stupid as it sounds it was an Alienware machine bought 3/4 years ago so I am not too sure. Its an Intel one!

Another strange issue is that since this trouble I have had to reinstall 3 year old drivers for my 9800 Pro as with any newer drivers the screen cannot do more than 640x480 and is all pixelated.

ah ok, i was hoping it would be more specific say if you had a asus mobo + hd2900Xt. If you find a solution or could take a picture of what your screen looks like it would be interesting to see if we both have the same problem.
