Graphics Card Problem

Hi all

Can anyone help with some advice with this graphics card problem I have?

I have an old PC which I use as a spare, in it has a Geforce 6600. A aw hile ago it started having a few problems, when I was playing a game the screen would kind of stutter and pause, it didn’t feel like a frame rate issue.
That carried on for a while until one day I turned on the machine and during the boot up the screen displayed loads of '$' symbols, it would then show the windows loading screen and cut to black.

Naturally I thought it was a graphics card issue so borrowed one from a friend and tried that. Same thing happened though…

So anyone have any ideas what this issue could be?

Does it definitely sound like a graphics card issue because my friend did his his spare card may have some problems but he wasn’t sure (or specific).

Oh and I don’t know if this makes a difference but it boots up fine in safe mode.

Thanks!

Yes, funnily enough when I load the pc without any drivers (or in safe mode) it loads into windows, ok you can't do anything but you can see the screen fine. As soon as you reinstall the drivers i get the cutting to black problem.
