Does your Motherboard have onboard graphics?
Is the monitor plugged into to onboard display output rather than the add in cards video output?
Is the GPU in the top 16 way PCIe slot?
Are the additional PCIe power cables connected to the GPU?

Sorry if the answer to all these is yes, but these are some of the first things to check.

Does your Motherboard have onboard graphics? - I have been using the processors graphics for the past few months which is a i7 3770K through an HDMI lead to the monitor.

Is the monitor plugged into to onboard display output rather than the add in cards video output? - Yes the card is plugged into the cards DVI Socket.

Is the GPU in the top 16 way PCIe slot? - Yes it is

Are the additional PCIe power cables connected to the GPU? - Yes I have two PCI Express leads coming from my Antic 900 Power supply

What card is it bud and what motherboard are you using?

The motherboard is a Sabertooth Z77 and the graphics card is a Gigabyte 780Ti

Huge thanks for the idea`s and help
Cheers

Is the monitor still expecting an HDMI input rather than DVI?

Hello I have the Dell Alienware monitor which has settings for HDMI, Auto and DVI-D, I have tried using DVI-D and Auto with no joy.

I can understand you cannot rule out the simplest of idea`s

Thanks

You shouldn't need to update the montherboard BIOS on that board but it wouldn't hurt to make sure you are running the latest.

Another issue is running onboard at times thinks it is what is still running and doesn't take note that you have plugged in a GPU, so go into the BIOS and switch from onboard to PCI-E for the display.

so go into the BIOS and switch from onboard to PCI-E for the display.

Hello, I cannot find that option in my bios:confused:

I will have another look

Thanks

Go to advanced settings (F7) System Agent Configuration in UEFI -> Graphics configuration it's in there!

Hello and yes I did find that option and set it to PCEI, it was set on auto which I thought should work but both these options for me do not.

I manage to get up to the loading windows etc then the screen goes black and the monitor goes into sleep mode:confused:

Guess I am running out of options

Thanks all
