GPU purchase - Sorted! (closed)

Hello!

All sorted already, thanks anyway! :)

I just got a sad mail, saying that the "requested reserved" GTX590 card has gone out of stock, so I am guessing I will have to pick a new card.

Does anybody have any suggestions?
I paid about £540 of the GTX590, so can still spend up to that on a new videocard.

I want something mean and powerfull, but not to fuzzed about overclocking it.

I was looking at the Radeon HD 6990 4096MB, but it is apparantly extremely loud (not a huge problem.. but still) and costs about the same.

Would it be better to possibly get 2 6970's?

For reference, this is the rest of the system spec that it will run into:

Cooler Master HAF X Gaming Tower Case - Black
Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 750W V2 High Performance Power Supply
OCZ Vertex 3 120GB 2.5" SATA-3 Solid State Hard Drive (x2, one for OS, one for games)
- CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz @ 4.50GHz Sandybridge CPU
- Motherboard: Asus P8P67 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION **
- RAM: Corsair XMS3 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel
- Cooler: Corsair A50 CPU Cooler
- Artic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

The "-" items are from a bundle, overclocked by OcUk.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I wouldn't suggest going with the GTX 590 anyway - there are "issues" with it, you may wall have dodged a bullet there. Also, as you say the HD 6990 is expensive and loud.

May I ask what resolution you play games at? Also, have you already bought that bundle? (as the motherboard doesn't support SLI and the second main PCIE slot only runs at x4 speed in crossfire)

At the moment on a 26", 1920*1200 - but that might be upgraded in the near future as well.

Yes, well - its all in the same order. I suppose it "could" be adjusted, but I was initially not planning to run SLI (hence the sexy 590 single card)

I guess im looking at the ATI 6990
The specs state:
- 700W minimum PSU required (1000-1200W recommended for Crossfire with with four 8 Pin connectors)

The GFX590 would not have had a problem in my system with the 750 PSU, would the 6990 struggle?

Problem solved! :D ill have my 590! :)

"hold on i think i was lying, i think they have just found it! lol

shipping it tonight, by early next week ur gonna have a new system mate :)"
