Graphics card recommendation

I am thinking about getting a new graphics card soon.

I currently run a GTX 275, and it is starting to show it's age in some newer games. I always try to find a good balance between visual beauty and performance, but some games are losing too much visually to be appealing and enjoyable. I game a lot, so I like my games to be enjoyable, but not too expensive at the same time. I have personally always like Nvidia cards, and I have heard people have had a lot of driver problems with ATI.

I game at 1680x1050 (possibly moving to 1920x1200 soon), so I need a card that can game around those resolutions well, with good visuals and still maintaining good performance. Say a budget of around £350 maximum, and something that will stay good for a while.

Also, are there any new graphics updates coming in the next few months? Like new versions of cards? That might impact on my decision.

Edit: Also wanted to add, I was thinking about the GTX 470 (just been reading some reviews etc, and might be a good card to SLI later on?).

If you like nvidia and plan on going sli I've heard 2 470s scale very well indeed. If you want a good single gpu solution right now though I'd probably go with a 5870.

Thanks. Well, I don't plan on going SLI right now, but certainly a plan for the next few months (I think). Was reading some reviews comparing two GTX 470s in SLI to a 5970, and it seemed to do pretty well :)

What do the 5850s do in CrossFire? I don't know how well it scales to be honest, but I know SLI can scale very well :)

I have had a ATI 4890 for a while now. No driver problems whatsoever.

I always owned Nvidia in the past and was not keen on moving - thought there were driver problems and also that I may be getting something inferior.

It's been a great card so far.

I would therefore not worry about driver problems or anything else and consider the best card for the budget you have.
