OC have sent off my R9 280X to MSI for repair/replacement. Told it may take up to 28 days for it to be sent back. Does it usually take this long?

28 days is the amount of time Trading Standards have said in the past for a reasonable amount of time for hardware replacement/repair to be resolved.

Previously with MSI I've seen some having their card back within 10 days, some as long as 25 days, I guess it depends how busy MSI are.

They have a huge building in Holland, where RMA's are processed >> https://www.instantstreetview.com/@51.499213,5.454002,-26.72h,-1.14p,1z

I had my old 980 go on me and it took about 10 days. Although they sent me a refurbished card at which the cooler was loose and warped. But managed to fix it myself.

Hense why I know have EVGA 980Ti's. MSI cards are great, their customer service not so.

Never had to RMA anything but thinking about it now. Before I do I want to check that the issue isn't my system.

My new GPU EVGA 980ti Classified has coil wine, but, I have picked up while reading threads on other topics that a unsuitable power supply can cause coil wine, is this right?

My specs
Rampage 5 extreme
5930k @4.4ghz, 1.29v
16gig 300mhz Kingston predator (4x4gig sticks)
3 ssd's
1 HDD
1 external HDD
5 120mm fans
1 D5 vario
1 980ti classified
750W EVGA Supernova G2

I have used a online calculator to work out my systems wattage, and it's a close call! I expect the calculator isn't exactly accentuate but it will be in the right ball park.
I definitely need a more powerful PSU. Do you think it could be the cause of coil wine?

Also could it be the cause of underwhelming OC on GPU?

RMA'ing to OCUK would mean 1-2 days posting to OCUK then the 10 to 28 days for them to get it back from EVGA then 1-2 days for me to get it back from OCUK? Is this the way it works?

if it's under 28 days old, OC should replace it. Otherwise up to 28 days though fingers crossed its quicker.

750W will be well more than enough, I used to have 3 titans and a 4930k all overclocked and it didnt draw more than 900W at the wall - online calculators are often a bit overzealous in what they recommend

it's not just about wattage. I doubt a change of PSU would make things better in Op's case.

what helped in the other cases was when e.g. lower tier bronze was swapped for gold/platinum quality unit, when coil whine stopped.
