I currently have an ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB graphics card but it is causing my monitor to flicker so I am looking to replace it and I have seen a 256MB nVidia 8800GT. Will this be better than my X1950 (regardless of the flickering issue).

Thanks

yep, but what's your budget, res etc...

My budget at the moment is between £40 and £80 and I know I could get a 512MB 8800GT but I want a temporary card for 6 months or so and then spend more on one later on - I also need to buy a laptop for uni work so the more I save on my PC parts (while getting a great computer), the more I get to buy a better laptop.

I don't really play that many games apart from COD 1&2 but my display is a 23" Apple Cinema Display HD at 1900 x 1200.

lol, I came in here and posted that same card which I was considering as an upgrade. Ended up with a 4850 as there were too many plusses for it, but I was thinking more long term and the possibility of CF with another one clinched it.

For under £50? Bargain and you could always use it for physics later on should you upgrade with more cash to splash :)

In your short term, I`d go for that card,
