This is a really nooby question, I know this, but basically, I'm building my first PC, and everything is here ready to go (apart from my wireless card...), and I'm wondering about my graphics card & monitor cable?

My monitor says it has VGA and DVI ports, and my gfx card (560ti) says it has DVI and HDMI.

What am I to make of this? I want to do whatever the best option is obviously, so that's linking them up with a HDMI lead right? (I don't have one :( ) how do I do this if my monitor doesn't have a HD port ? Its meant to be a full HD monitor so I don't understand this.

Basically i have no idea what to do, sorry for the noob question.

Just use dvi to connect, hdmi and dvi are both digital connections, only difference being that hdmi carries audio as well as video.

DVI and HDMI have the same image quality. Only difference is DVI can hold higher resolutions with Dual Link DVI, and HDMI can carry sound signals. So use DVI and you will be fine.

If you're using desktop speakers or headset then don't worry about it. It's just HDMI will carry sound to the monitor and play it through the monitor's speakers. Ususally they're very poor though. Which monitor do you have? It may have speakers built in and their may be a 3.5mm green port next to the VGA/DVI ports where you connect your PC sound to.

Yep, youll still have sound by connecting your speakers/headphones to your motherboards audio outputs. Most monitor built in speakers are poor quality anyway.
