Hi,

I currently have a GTX580 and im looking to upgrade.
I will be buying second hand as i think you het a lot more for your money.

What do you recommend?
Is it worth getting a GTX980 or a couple of cards in sli?

Im currently running a single 1920x1080 but im looking at buying a 4k screen in the next 6 months.

980 on its own won't be fast enough for 4K.

If buying new, then SLI 970 or Crossfire 290x would probably good bet; if you are looking at 2nd hand for saving money, then a pair of 290 or 290x would probably cost you just under £360.

Though going SLI or Crossfire, you'd have to make sure you have a good case with very good airflow, especially for the pair of 290/290x, and you would need a powerful good quality PSU as well.

Agreed, right now there isn't a single card solution which will run 4K consistently above 30 FPS.

A pair of R9 290 cards should work with 4k games. What are the rest of your system specs ?

Personal preference after having Crossfire 290s and currently 970 SLI is to go for the crossfire option.
After seeing countless people mock AMD because of their drivers (which I personally never had a problem with) and praise Nvidia I went green team and have found the opposite to be true.
I also noticed the difference in VRAM usage when playing games like Shadows of Mordor where a single 290 played it with no problem maxing out VRAM where as the 970s would cap at 3.5 and if it did go over it would cause stuttering.
