Graphics Card Up-Grade question.

Hi All.

I'm hoping some kind soul on here can help.

Before I start the question, can I just say that I am looking to up-grade the graphics card to something better, but not to a top of the range expensive spec card.

I use the PC for web browsing, emailing and of course the odd bit of gaming with things such as BFBC2 and 3, Sniper elite V2 etc. They do play on my rig, but only at low'ish settings, so I'm trying to find out what I can up-grade to without having to change the internal components such as Motherboard, CPU etc.

My system is a HP Pavilion Elite HPE, running Win 7 Home Premium, 16GB RAM, Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz, > > NVIDIA GeForce GT420 Graphics card < <

Any help or thoughts would be very welcome.

Thanks.

Well, it's about 50% longer, that's the first thing I noticed :D

I'd say it's about 20-25% faster when both are OC'd.

Temp and noise wise they are pretty much identical.

If you already own a 7850 and it's a decent clocker I wouldn't get the 7870XT as an upgrade, it's a great card, but it's not that much of a jump to be worth the outlay. I only got one because I thought my 7850 was dead. Turns out it's fine and it was windows that had gone sideways *doh*, and I couldn't be bothered to DSR the 7870XT (the 7850 now lives in the wifes' PC).

But for someone looking for a new mid range card for under £200 the 7870XT is deffo the one to go for, it's certainly worth the £30 extra over a 7850, and there's no point buying a normal 7870 now that these are out.

So all in all, it's a good buy imho.

Also, when TRIXX 4.6.0 comes out these 7870XT's have voltage control, so I'm hoping I can squeeze a bit more out of it :D

Hi.

The card suggested, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-312-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=411 which is a Sapphire HD 7870 XT rev2.0 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card is showing as out not available.

What do you think about this one instead? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-295-SP&tool=3&page=2 which is the Sapphire HD 7850 2048MB GDDR5

Many thanks for any help.

did you find out what power supply you have ?

Any pictures of the internals of the case might be a help to us.
