Hello all,

Been awhile since I posted....
I have an old rig with which i am quite happy....except for the graphic card.
It has a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 CPU, Asus P5Q Mobo and 8GB or RAM.

Can any of you nice ladies and gentlemen advise me of a half decent graphics card that would function well with my current spec? Budget £150 max?

I wouldn't mind getting hold of second hand one if needs be.

Thanks

Ok, have thought about it and taking the advice of you experts, have decided to go for new rig, so with a budget of £600 what would you advise.? I have a Prodigy Bitfenix case so a mini Itx mobo please and would prefer a Haswell chip.

Much appreciated

What PSU do you currently have? What bits do you need(CPU, mobo, ram and GPU, anything else?)

4670k £180
Mobo?
8gb ram £65
Asus 7970 matrix £222
Ssd? If so Samsung 840 eve 120gb £84

if he has the extra funds he would probably be better off getting a 2nd hand graphics card with at least 3gb vram as games these days are going over the 2gb framebuffer.

As fowler said.

What make and wattage PSU do you have?
Do you have a hard disk and DVD drive you can reuse from your current rig?

The Asus triple-slots cards ain't gonna fit into the Prodigy. It HAS TO BE not more than two-slots.

I had a feeling that'd be the case(pun intended :) ) but threw it out there anyway, in which case the sapphire 280x toxic maybe(tho that's meant to be a bit bigger than the normal 2 slot cooler) @ £270.

See my Sig...setup cost me £570, you can put the money saved on the case towards a SSD.

Happy with the performance.

So long as OP is using the default panel with the venting holes not the windowed panel, or it would effectively suffocate like with someone trying to breath with a firm over his face :p

If that Q9550 is overclocked and paired with a 7850 that would make for a very nice setup.

No need to go changing your whole system if you only plan on running a 7850.

What you have is still quite capable of offering decent performance.

I'm in a similar position too you. I've decided on a 7850... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-052-HS&tool=3

Was going to get the newer R760x but seems the 7850 is a better and quicker card. I don't play many games on my PC anymore but I want too, and as I got a nice new monitor... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-028-AS&groupid=17&catid=510 I thought I'd replace my old 5770 in my PC. I'm very excited to get back into the joys of gaming again. Think this is the card.
