Currently have an Asus 5870 with a EK Waterblocks block on it as part of the gfx and cpu cooling loop. But I'm getting ready to upgrade the card now as things like GTA V are now only playable on low quality settings and from the screen shots I can see I'm missing out. I've also just upgraded to the Dell U2515 1440p screen so would like to take advantage of the extra resolution.

The rest of the system is a Asus Rampage III Black Edition X58 board, I7 980 Hex core and 24Gb ram. So what would be recommended as a new card?

I think I would like to stay with a single card and I'd also like to keep it in the water loop also so am currently thinking of a 390X or possibly going the bit extra for a Fury Pro but I'm not sure if the Fury would work well with the older board and cpu or weather to stick with the 390X being slightly older tech?

I'm pretty much ruling out the Fury X as don't want to be paying for the onboard water cooling just to take it off and put a EK block on it. Also I was put off nVidia stuff a while back so unless there is a very good reason I'm thinking of sticking with the AMD cards.

Any thoughts?

Thanks :)

single 390 or a single fury pro.
both can handle 1440p
390x falls short from going fury pro as the difference in price isnt a real issue.
people buying fury pro been happy with the card as its silent and new tech.

If you want to go and stick a waterblock try and get a Fury X for the extra performance over the Pro. The Pro is a good card with a magnificent cooler and I just don't see the point in getting one to waterblock instead of the full Fiji Fury x, Unless the cost difference is too much.

I'd go 390 and save the money to do a die shrink upgrade much sooner or Fury X and wait longer.

I'd wait for next years die shrink but if you can't I'd be more inclined to grab a 390 and use it without the waterblock so you're saving as much dosh as you can and then upgrade properly next year with HBM 2 etc, That way you will maximise how long it lasts and you'll get a decent chunk back on the 390 sale so you won't lose out massively. There good cards with 8 gb's so they'll still be relevant and easy to sell.
