Graphics Card Upgrade Advice

So im after an external view on what i should proceed with in terms of a graphics card upgrade path.

I have currently the following setup:

Motherboard: Asus Prime B450 Plus
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x (Upgraded this recently from a Ryzen 5 3600) low cost upgrade made sense
RAM: 32GB DDR 3200Mhz
GPU: Radeon 5600XT 6GB
PSU: Corsair CX600

As you can no doubt tell the original purchase is about 5 years old now, and for the most part i have had no reason to upgrade any of it. Does everything i do without issue. I recently got in to BF6, and may look to play some other large titles. So i got a cheap upgrade to kinda max my CPU path out (with exception of the X3D route which is not really an option due to cost).

The 5600XT has been a good servant by BF6 seems to have pushed it to its limit in terms of wanting something other than 60fps on all low settings. So long story short with the setup i have and some of the limitations of the Motherboard platform and CPU what is the best logical path to upgrade to allow for better BF6 performance on higher settings along with playing some other games. My Resolution is 2560x1080 as i have an ultrawide 29" LG. I may look to change that in the future to a true 1440p screen. I should add when running BF6 and GPU pretty much maxed out and CPU in the 30 - 40% realm my total system wattage from the wall seems to be about 250W - 270W peak.

Options ive looked at are Intel B580 / 9600XT 8GB / 5060 8GB in terms of new cards, open to 2nd hand options. Idealy looking for around the £200-250 mark.

Is that budget including selling your old card? You'd maybe get £70/£80 from that.

This gives you a good idea of where your cards sits, the 9060XT is better than the 5060 8GB.

The B580 did have issues with older CPUs, this shows you 9060XT vs the B580

If you don't mind what is effectively 2nd hand (but with with a short warranty unlike 'real' 2nd hand) you could make an offer on a BGrade card, you might just grab that 16GB 9060XT for close to your budget in which case that's better than anything else you mentioned. - BGrade GPUs - see here for how

id personally wait a little while as games are going to jump up massively soon performance wise or go 2nd hand for a higher end performance card. older consoles are being phased out and new spec will be quite a bit higher in games than what we have now. so buying a mid range card now may struggle with in the next 12 months especially with the new updates and games.

Don't get a 8 GB card. OCUK currently have a special offer on the 12 GB B580 for £200. The RX 9060 XT 16 GB is a far better card (~30% - 40% more performance) but costs £130 more.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £529.98 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Cheers i keep thinking wait a bit longer, but im enjoying BF6 a lot and would like to up the eye candy a bit and get better FPS in multiplayer. I honestly dont know what time etc would look like 12 months down the line for anything else anyway, i think the only other game i would even consider would be GTA 6.

I see people on here talk about making offers on BGrade cards. Whats the going % discount to kind of ask for when putting an offer in?

One of my questions around the Intel Arc B580 is related to any issues with performance drop off with my Motherboard/CPU setup that would be more stark than say a 9060XT?

new xbox is rumoured to be end of next year. many games are starting or started to drop older consoles. 1080 res you gonna be looking at min sorta 3070 gtx performance. for many games especially big ones.

There's no standard rate as margins vary by product type.
A rule of thumb I use is what is the going rate 2nd hand then knock a little bit off. That gives you a good price + you at least get some warranty vs none. If the product has been in clearance for a while or is an old model then maybe go lower too. As long as you're not silly Rob is very reasonable.

Cheers for the advice.

I usually try to aim for -20%, essentially VAT free. There tens to be much more wiggle room on things like peripherals and other bits. Margin is normally thin on GPU and CPU.

Cheers thats good to know. I guess my limited time im unlikely to be jumping onboard many cutting edge titles for a while. BF6 has been the first in a long time thats got me back in to it to be frank. and GTA 6 will also no doubt. Im guessing thats gonna be half decently optimised for current console so may be okay there also on current gen mid range cards.

You must have rebar available for Arc, I don't think PCIE 3.0 would be a problem.

Driver overhead was a big issue, but Intel have done some work in sorting that out.

I'd personally want to buy a 9060 XT 16GB from your card, since while the Arc is an upgrade, it is more of an incremental one and I'd hope the extra step on performance and VRAM will last you longer.

Factor in a power supply, grey label CX units are not great quality and green label ones are a literal ticking time bomb.

No point buying a new graphics card if you're not also gonna upgrade that power supply.
