Looking to upgrade my GC so I am able to play COD4 at native res on 24"

Rig is E6400 overclocked to 3.2 core2duo on DS3, 2gig ram, 550 corsair ps. x800 GC

Should I buy a 8800GT now(which one?) or wait for the new GTS?

cheers.

Aye that one is price-hiked to buggery, but I suppose that's because they're selling like hot cakes.

The HD3870 is also an option but if they're anything like the HD2900s then personally I'd avoid.

for £240?

How long are you planning on keeping this card? If its short term till the new gen comes along i would just get a gt if for quite a long time i would maybe go for a gts as they are faster and have better cooling.

If you are just after playing Call Of Duty 4 for the time being then I'd get something cheaper like a 3850, there's plenty of those in stock everywhere and they should handle that game with very little effort.

With the next high-end cards coming out in February it's probably your best interest to spend as little money as you possibly can on graphics right now, just enough to get by.

I want to be playing at 1920 x 1200 native res for a 24", will a 3850 be powerful enough though?

I should think so, but I'll have to go and check some benchmarks and find out. Call Of Duty 4 is a really undemanding game compared to most out at the moment, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Edit: Hmmm, I found one but it's with AA on. I wouldn't mind seeing one without.

That said the 3870 Pro/XTs are cheap enough but it seems ATI cards plain suck at COD4.
