Hello good people of overclockers,

I have had my main desktop a few years and like to keep tings running smoothly and up to date. It is mainly used for gaming and a bit of armature video editing from time to time. As games get more intense and videos pack in ever more pixels and fps i find my computed does struggle to keep up from time to time.

The current spec is below but i was wondering how much I could upgrade my graphics card without the rest of the harware letting things down. what do you think my system can handle and where is money best spent?

MOBO: intel DH67BL AAG10189-207 (pulled info from CPU-Z i hope it makes sense)
Processer: intel i5-2400 @3.1 GHz
Ram: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
GPU: GTX 560TI
PSU: 750W
Windows 7 64bit
plently of storage and an SSD for system disk.

Would be grateful for any thoughts? Is going top of the range a good investment for when I do a new build in a few years or will I be disappointed.

Thanks in advance.
Charlie

I would get a GTX 970.

edit: I just realised your cpu is locked... damn. I'd want to sidegrade it maybe to an unlocked i5 then overclock that to 4GHz+ that's if your motherboard allows it, I don't know how restrictive they are these days.

I wouldn't have thought an i5 2400 would bottleneck a 970 or R9 290 much if at all?

GTX 970 will probably max out every game from now til 4k goes mainstream at 1080p, for around £250-300.

Might be a bit overkill for your system though, CPU will potentially hold it back in some games as already mentioned.

The good news for you is that with the release of the 970/980, prices have dropped across the board and there's a lot of great bargains to be had out there at the moment on previous generation cards e.g. 780's.

You could also consider waiting for the 960 to be released (early next year probably).

yeah i was looking at the GTX780ti Gz edition from gigabyte but i see the gtx970 is a similar price.

So which has more bang for the buk? and which version of the 970 would you recommend?

your all saying get a CPU and over clock the hell out of it, but his mother board is not upto the job.

get a 770, 780, r9 290, there all going cheap now day's
