I have an old PC and unfortunately I think the graphics card is on its last legs. The computer freezes and the screen turns into a random multi-colour pattern – requiring a hard reboot. This is happening more and more often so we want to replace the card.
It’s an old PC of mine being used by another member of the family to play online games with. Currently World of Warcraft, but he’s into Rift too. It doesn’t run rift very well but it seems to cope just fine with World of Warcraft on half decent graphics. Most important this is frame rate really, he’s not a fan when it dips down into the 10-20fps regions. He doesn’t know anything about hardware and just wants the games to work.
The current PC spec is:
He’s budgeted no more than £50. He send me an email with a card he’s looked at from a strangely popular high street PC shop for £39.99 (ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 PCI-E Graphics Card) but to me it looks pretty naff.
I just wondered what his best bet is to get the most out of this dated hardware – I looked at the HD7700 because they have such good reviews but they’re slightly out of the price range. What fits the budget and will be better or equal to the old budget?
