Hey all.
I've realised my graphics card doesn't meet the min spec for fallout 4. It's served me well all these years even if it does sound like a jet engine when I play planetside 2.

Can you give me any pointers as what I should go for?
It needs to be a) fallout 4 capable b)cheap c)quiet and preferably d) not second hand
I've currently got a HIS ATI Radeon HD 6870 1024MB
Rest of spec:
Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail

Gigabyte Z97M-D3H Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard

TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

It needs to fit in quite a small case, the HIS card just about fits, just, so smaller would be better.

Oh and budget is as little as possible and not over £150! Sadly having two kids has put a dent in my gaming fund.
Thanks!

What case do you have??

A GTX960 is quite compact although the R9 380 is a faster card.

I have a Xeon E3 1230 V2/Core i7 3770 and a GTX960 currently,so could report back on how well it runs in a few days.

A 380 or 380X are your best options. These cards are faster than their NVIDIA alternatives.

Up it £10/£20 Get a 4GB card for longevity, beg, borrow, save... 2GB for 1080P is pushing it, its probably not really enough now.

The 4GB GTX 960 is good the 4GB 380 is better.

If it's for fallout 4 as you said then you want nvidia so the game looks it's best. The 960 as mentioned would be a decent choice

From what I can gather there are no specific Gameworks features that you can enable or disable so I think you're telling pork pies there.

The only thing Bethesda have admitted to (aside from all of the BS) is that they worked with Nvidia to make the game.

I'm pretty sure we will have the answer tomorrow but yeah, all BS for now.

Why anyone recommends an amd card when they don't do gameworks, they have issues with fallout And he wants a gpu for fallout is beyond me.

What he needs is a nvidia gtx 970 mini itx unfortunately it's 100 more than the budget. There is a gtx 960 mini itx though.

If you really can't find anymore money then get a gtx 960 mini itx card they come in a just over 150 it should play fo4 pretty decent considering a 750ti doesn't do to bad a job.

His current card is 26+cm long and he has some more space spare, why does he need to go mini itx?

Also fallout can play perfectly well on amd cards with very little IQ difference after turning a few things down. There are a few threads on it already; showing the screenshot differences, setting differences and the fps improvement after turning certain settings down. Going for an AMD card in this situation may not be considered a compromise depending on what OP is after. If he can do without god rays on ultra and prefers a few extra fps over it, then i see no issue with those recommendations.

What do you lose out on by going amd at £150 mark if you intend on playing fallout 4?
