I've just sold my 5770 so i'm looking to boost my gaming performance slightly. I'm wondering what card is best to go for, i'm torn between which GTX 460 to get or should I get something completely different?

question, does DX11 matter to you? if it doesn't then consider taking a look at some older cards. been doing ton of research since im upgrading GFX card from 8800GTS, just got myself a sweet HIS 4870X2 on auction site, my research has came to the conclusion that that card isn't much slower than the likes of the GTX 480 at stock speeds. another great potential older card is the GTX 295 which is faster than the GTX 480 on a number of occasions, seems to use less power and makes less heat. if you need DX11 for some reason or another than obviously the current HD and GTX lines are your only option, and for the price i think the GTX 460 is the best card around. especially when overclocked. :)

my only issue with that is you can get a GTX 295 for less than £200, and it will monster the HD 5850 at more or less everything, especially at higher resolutions, though i do understand wanting something newer. upto you dude. ;)

I'm thinking about 3D vision in the future too so i'm looking for something Nvidia really. The main choices I have for the GTX 460 are the Gigabyte, Palit Platinum or the MSI one.

Im stuck:confused:

My girlfriend lives in jarrow ;)

does she? near town centre or outskirts like myself..? don't think theres much difference between brands with the GTX 460 though get the 1024Mb one as they are faster ;) the MSI one looks like it has quite a hefty cooler but then again it won't vent from rear of case..:)

Get a GTX 460 and overclock it to GTX 470 levels. Problem solved, you don't need anything else, surely you can get a GTX 295 but in a couple of years you'd be kicking yourself cuz every game supports DX 11.

If you're like me who only replaces his card every few years then get a dx 11 card if you replace your card every year or less then yeah, you should get a 4870x2 or a gtx 285/295.

thing is though, had DX10 card for ages, well since they first came out to be honest and nothing really needs it, crysis for example runs better in DX9 and looks just as nice. to be honest they just need to stick with one DX for longer than this, or else its never gonna see its true potential
