Graphics card upgrade

Hi

I have a two year old HP Pavillion 500-242ea desktop computer and according to HP's website the graphics card is a Radeon R5 235.

I've had a look inside the machine and it doesn't confirm the graphics card and there is nothing on it apart from a HP number.

I want to upgrade the graphics card with something that will allow me to play Sixth Reign and Overwatch without the lag in displaying the graphics.

The power supply may well limit what I can use as the label states it can handle 260w at 50c and 300w at 35c. The existing card consumes 35w according to the specs.

Can anyone tell me what I can safely upgrade to without changing the power supply?

Many Thanks

Bill

R7 250 or possibly a GTX 750ti

I've got a Lenovo desktop with Win10 64 bit, a 300w LiteOn nondescript PSU happily running a 750ti at 1680x1050 resolution at work for a bit of office gaming.

Depending on what resolution you have and with the AMD A8 if it has this then it could be holding the PC back. Its not a really powerful PC. Needs also 4gb RAM although the HP spec says 6gb. I expect its 64 bit Windows to utilise all the RAM ?

eg my Lenovo has an I5 3570k in it.

Thanks for the replies. The Radeon 460, I see it's power consumption is 75w max. That's about double the existing card so I assume it won't be a problem. I can't see how much it is yet, do you know?

Many Thanks

Bill

I see the release of the RX 460 has happened which I have been waiting for. Which one on the website should I go for. I will be looking at the 2GB versions.

Is there one card that's the best?

Many thanks

Many thanks for the links. All three are only powered from the PCI port which is what I need and all have a 3 year warranty. Now I'll have to choose one of them.

Cheers

The warranty period must have change as the first 2 manufacturers have only been offering 2 years on previous cards.

Thats good news.

2GB should be fine, doubt OP is expecting Very High settings from the machine.

I would go Powercolor as warranty is dealt by OCUK or Gygabyte as they have a UK RMA.

Hi

I eventually went for the Gigabyte Radeon RX 460 Windforce card and I'm pleased with it's performance.

After installing Fallout 4 recently I have started to experience a few problems. It doesn't always happen but when it does I get a large blue square in the centre of the screen surrounded by narrow black and white bars. This happens before the windows logon screen. Sometimes after the logon screen the display goes haywire and corrupted. Once I restart it behaves itself.

The drivers are the latest version (16.9.2)

Can anyone shed any light on what may be going on?

Many thanks

Bill
