I want to upgrade my GPU, my current setup is:
  • MSI AMD B350 TOMAHAWK AM4 Socket ATX Motherboard
  • AMD Ryzen 5 1600 6 Core AM4
  • Corsair Vengeance LED 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz
  • GeForce GTX 1060 Mini 6144M
What’s the maximum spec GPU i should go for, not looking to spend crazy money. Or would there be no point until I Upgrade other components?

Mainly used for 3D CAD modelling and VR.

thanks

What's your budget? I'd recommend a GTX 2080ti.

In all seriousness, for VR a 1080ti or a 2070 upwards are awesome cards, but prices are on the rise across the board as supply dwindles due to many factories being closed for 2-3 months, especially after chinese new year when they just didn't reopen. It's a poor time to buy. Hold off if you can on the graphics side for another 4-6 months as new cards from AMD and nvidia are due by the end of the year.

If anything I'd consider an upgrade to the CPU just now. A ryzen 5 3600 would be a great upgrade. and not too expensive.

thanks for the advice, really appreciate it... happy to hold off for that long. And will consider the cpu upgrade

I'd agree with waiting until you can pair Ryzen 3 CPU, with either RDNA2 (AMD) or NV's Ampere GPU.

Your RAM will be fine and not a priority if you're on a budget, do CPU, GPU and MOBO.

Can you wait a bit? If you wait for the new Ryzen 3000 refresh you might be able to get a decently discounted 3600 or even better. Then I would wait until Ampere/RDNA 2 and get one of those cards. I wouldn't change the mobo.

Have you got a link with some good info on these cards? I did google them, but as usual, a swamp of information....
There’s very little concrete information out there so as you’ve found much of it is guesswork, conjecture or dodgy leaks that could be nothing but lies for page visits.
