Hi,

Can anyone help regarding upgrading my graphics card on my pc

I will also be getting a 1tb ssd as it is slow sometimes loading and also thinking of replacing the current ram from 10gb to x2 8gb sticks to maximise the ram my motherboard can take which i beleive is 16gb.

Regarding upgrading the graphics card what would you suggest to upgrade to without breaking the bank too much, i am a newbie so don't want to mess anything up, just want something that will be plug and play and not have to change anything else or would i need to change power supply?

I don't play many games but sometimes play forza or streetfighter,

My Pc specs at the moment are

Asrock P55 Pro Motherboard
Intel i7 cpu 860 @ 2.80ghz
10gb ram
Psu Active85 Model ATV500W

thanks for your reply i knew i forgot to add something, the obvious graphics card lol. it is a geforce gtx 770 as far as i can remember

so with this motherboard there is'nt much i can do is that right? sorry if i sound dumb. might just end up buying another pc instead if that is the case,

i just googled how to check uefi and done the cms msinfo32 and shows bios mode as legacy.

thank you for your help, really appreciate it

I am unfamiliar with that brand of PSU but a quick search indicates that it has a big 12V rail. If this is the Pro model it will have two 6+2 pin 150W connectors so you are set for GPU power. For £200 you will be able to get a second-hand RTX 2060. A brand new Intel A750 is only £50 more but I expect your board lacks Rebar support, especially as it hasn't had a BIOS update since 2010. Worth checking, though, just in case.

I would not bother upgrading your RAM; that board will not take 8 GB DIMMs (max size on QVL is 4 GB). Anything you buy should be with the expectation that it should be moved to another PC.
Cheers,

How do i check if my board supports rebar?

Also for ram do you mean it wont take 8gb ram but will take x4 4gb ram?

i just done a benchmark test
so current it is showing
gaming 21%
desktop 67%
workstation 16%

i left everything the same but changed graphics card to rtx 2060 and the results show
gaming 54%
desktop 67%
workstation 41%

and then further adding a samsung evo 1tb ssd changes it to
gaming 57%
desktop 72%
workstation 44%

This will be in the BIOS. You will likely need to ensure Above 4G Decoding is enabled first. Rebar wasn't a thing in 2010 so it's almost certainly not available.

Your board will not take 8GB DIMMs. It will take 4 GB DIMMs. I'm guessing that you have two 4GB and two 1GB DIMMs right now. You could replace the two 1GB DIMMs with two 4GB DIMMs and have 16 GB but I'm not sure that you will see any benefit.
so not sure about the rebar lol, will give it a miss

ram is showing as

Slot "BANK0" has 2 GB installed
Slot "BANK1" has 2 GB installed
Slot "BANK2" has 2 GB installed
Slot "BANK3" has 4 GB installed

just to confirm then an rtx 2060 will be plug and play right?

think im just going to do that and maybe get a internal ssd and then see what it's like before i change ram if i need to

Oh, I only linked that site because, it shows you a profile of everyone with your board who logged a result and you can then click their profile and see what BIOS version they were running and which graphics card. It can be helpful for old systems to know what new(er) cards people are running.
thank you so much i am getting somewhere now lol, appreciate your help. ;)

so bought a ssd and more ram.

New userbenchmark shows
gaming 25% from 21% before
desktop 71% from 67% before
workstation 20% from 16% before

Hi guys,

So after all the little upgrades,
psu (bequiet 750w) £68.93
1tb ssd crucial mx500 £36.49
16gb ram (x4 gb) Crucial £22.99
msi gtx geforce 1060 6gb £60
Total: £188.41

userbenchmark now shows:

Gaming 40% (started with 21%)
desktop 73% (67%)
Workstation 31% (20%)

On userbenchmark its showing me gpu is performing below and a guide to overclocking the graphics card.

Should i risk doing it via the msi and kombuster software it shows in the guide or just let it be for now?
