graphics card weakening??

I think this must be the case, but I wanted to check before thinking about what to do next.

Occasionally after running games with high demand on gpu (and other resources I guess), the 1080p screen I'm playing them on goes nuts. As in it goes ultra squiggly and 'vibrates' with a mess of colours that was on the screen previously (completely ruined, you cannot tell what was there before).

All other things seem fine and I use my other monitor to restart which fixes it.

GPU - Twn frozr 3GB 7950
CPU - Intel i5 sandybridge 25k
8BG RAM

Is it possible the screen is at fault. It's a relatively new 1080p Samsung?

Cheers!

It's far more likely to be an issue with your graphics card. What sort of temperatures do you reach during intensive gaming?

86 degrees is the highest I've seen it, and normally floating between 78 - 82, so I'm assuming that's not an issue?

sounds like its going out. What sort of things have you tried to do? As in to try and fix it?

Id recommend uninstalling drivers completely using DDU(Display Driver Uninstaller). reinstall drivers (what drivers are u using? Latest? Is that when issues started)

Try underclocking the core and memory abit to see if anything changes. Have a look what your VRM temps are seen as it happens with demanding games. They are usually good upto 100 degrees i prefer to keep them under 90 degrees if i can or lower. Your core temps isn't that bad.

Try checking power cables connecting to GPU see if they are firmly connected. If your card is dusty give it a clean.

That's all i got for now which are things that ive done in the past to help with gfx card problems ive had.

If non of that helps im sure it will be out of warranty now? Might be time to upgrade?

sound likely its your gpx card , i would test another device with your samsung monitor thou to be on the safe side ... my track record with samsung screens is awfull wouldent recommend them at all. That being said as post above downclock core / mem on gpx card and see if that makes a differance also.

Restart PC. Hope for the best. Log in to overclockers.

I'm lazy :p

Thanks for those pointers, I'm going to try them later this morning and I'll have a bit more clue of what I'm doing.

Part of me is hoping it is the gpx so I've an excuse to upgrade

try using a benchmark to stress the card something like heaven, monitor your temps with hwmonitor as well too see what are you hitting in both cpu and gpu.

temps try keep it below 80c with the 7950s. also give it a good clean to make sure there is no fluff crap around the cooler.

if you seeing 86 its probably going over.so my guess would be overheating or card is going .

Try the drivers etc. but it could probably do with a full strip down, clean and TIM refresh due to it's age and running temps.

sorry I dont get the logic in the temps are hitting 86c so must be faulty GPU. Fans wearing out or heatsink/TIM not doing its job could also be the cause. Dusty case or poor airflow also could be the cause. Make sure you give everything a good clean.

What a lot of people forget is that monitors can get dusty too and if you dont clean them they also overheat especially in the vents hence going faulty.

What you need to do is stress the GPU so run something like Heaven for 30 minutes and see what happens.
