im looking for a graphics card that has a hdmi output and can carry sound over that input to connect to my av reciever to get 5.1 sound. are there any cards that will do this.

needs to be powerful enough to play blu ray and output hd at 720p.

what about the 3850 and 3870 cards they state that they support 5.1 digital sound vis the hdmi port. has anyone done this and conected it to the reciever and got it working fine. advise much appreciated

My advice is to get a motherboard with an optical out audio connector instead, the IP35 Pro has one.

Spending money on a graphics card at all is a waste of time for pure media if you have a half decent CPU, even onboard 6100 graphics worked in one of my builds doing 1080p. Unless you intend to play games on this machine as well as well, I would say go for the optical out instead.

ive got an abit an-m2hd board now which has the onboard hdmi but cant get it to pass the audio over the hdmi which is why i was looking at getting one of the above cards.

i got a His 2400 as it has the audio on board the graphics card so off i went to buy a Belkin Silver Series Hdmi To Dvi sat there all day trying to get the audio to work only to find out you need a specific adapter from ati or the manufacturer of the card as it wired up differently from a normal dvi to hdmi adaptor

Also for the life of me i can't get a good pic on my samsung 26 inch lcd have tried forcing resolution with powerstrip but text and icons always looks crap so going back to vga which works without problem
