Building up a new system, the bits I have so far
Monitor Asus 27inch 1440p 170hz
Case corsair carbide omega rgb
psu old corsair ax750(will be upgraded)
hopefully 32gb corsair vengeance 3600 ddr4

Plan is
Ryzen 5700x
Gigabyte b550 gaming
H100i

I am planning on gaming and leaning to 3d print and modelling.

Now to the question, I have about £300 to spend, the plan was always a 6600xt, since looking I have found the 6650xt Is not a lot more money but seems a OK performance gain.
Should I get a second hand 6700xt with 12gb ram rather than 8gb for the same sort of money?
I will be upgrading the system over time.

They're down to £360 on OCUK now (new) so I'd try and up the budget, one way of doing that is to buy this cooler: THG review, video review:

You don't need an AIO for a 5700X.

I second both of the above.

The 6700XT is definitely the best way to go around that budget and the Assassin appears to be a great cooler for the price. You can rearrange your budget to afford it.

The 5700X chip is only 65W and mine is more than happy on air so the H100i isn't necessary and you can put the funds to better use .

@adidan @Tetras The OP is looking at doing 3D modelling where generally speaking nvidia are a far better choice.... You're looking at a 3060 12gb for around £300 (overpriced these days, like most nvidia cards...) which is a little slower in gaming but will be faster in most cases when it comes to 3D software. Having said that neither a 3060 or a 6700xt is really going to be strong enough to push 1440p at 170hz that the screen they've already bought runs at (I'd have bought a slightly cheaper, lower refresh rate, screen and put the savings on the gpu)....

@sunn1e can you let us know the programs you intend to use/learn, I'm guessing blender primarily as it's free.

The screen was a gift to me as well as the case, the budget is £300 for a gpu atm. That has already been raised from £230ish. I can't go more than that. Realised i needed somthing better than the 6600xt i was originally looking at, thats whu i asked about the 6650xt and 6700xt. They seem to be the only cards falling into this budget.
I am only just starting out 3d modelling and yes blender for now(unless you know a good program).
I dont need everything to be high settings and massive spec, just better untill a few years time I can upgrade again.
I'm running a 3570k and r9 280 atm anything is an upgrade.

Thank you for the help tho it's helping a lot.
Have given up on the h100i idea but that don't mean more budget as that was gonna be a bday present from the wife.
