graphics cards

Hi my sons getting new laptop soon and wants to play games on it.

I'm unsure on what graphics cards are good are good on laptops as I only know desktops.

I understand pc cards and know that 7970 and 680 are best but they way out of budget.

So was looking at 650m/660m any good?
or what would be the amd one to go for?

Oh and are toshiba qosmio any good?

First of all, what is your budget?

They are good cards, mid level but will still be able to play all of the games out now decently

Depends on how much you want to spend, you see the Samsung Gamer 7 series have the GTX 675 or AMD 6990M, the latter being able to be found for sub 1K if you look around..

As you say, the 7970M and 680M are without doubt the quickest mobile GPU on the market, the 7970M being the best value performance wise. The 680M is just too expensive when compared against the 7970M

The 660M is quite decent, notebookcheck has a list of all mobile GPU with benchmark scores.

I've had a few mobile GPU's over the years, my advise is to get the BEST you can afford, its really important for a gaming laptop.
