Hi,

I am considering purchasing two 4870's however will i be wasting my money?

i could buy two 4850's and save around £150.

would i notice the differnce between the 4850's and 4870's

THANKS.
Feedback and suggestions are all welcome...

also is it worth purchasing 9800GX2 instead.

I'd say the 4850's as its worth the save in money. If it were about 1 card i'd say 4870. But yeah, 4850 for crossfire as its just too much of a price difference. Mind you, after the first week or so ATi may drop their prices. So watch out.

You think You have decisions ;)
I have 2 HD 3870's in crossfire which are fantastic
2 HD4850's crossfire potentially even better but poorer coolers
HD4870 on order...don't know where that will fit in !

All I will recomend to You is any of the above is will need a top notch motherboard and CPU or You will not see the full benefit

Anyone want to buy a pair of 3870's so I can make a decision, or the 4850's :D

Also i only say 4870 for single cards as it has faster ,and soon, more ram (1 gig version) but with crossfire you will have 1 gig anyway which should be enough.

I've not seen that much of a jump from 2x3870's to 2x4850's in crossfire. Depends on what games you play. I would imagine a bigger gap with the 4870's. If your gonna crossfire the cpu holds them back, OC and let them ripp. All depends what your changing. If I was going from 3850's then I'd be over the moon probably, but will never know. :) I did notice 25%-30% increase in crysis.

CPU is running at 3.4ghz. If i do use two 4870's, my system is air cooled however is very well cooled. will this keep the gpu in the right condition

single 4850 then another as and when if you need it.
A 4850 is more than enough for now especially if you use vsync to stop screen tearing.
