Hey, on one of my computers I've got a Sapphire ATi Radeon X800 GTO bought from OCuk.

Now, I've discovered artifacts and in this weather the TRIXX software is recording an average temperature of 75C plus with the internal case temp of 32 - 35 degrees. I was just wondering is it worth buying the Arctic Cooling ATI 4 Rev.2 for X800 cards. Will there be a difference in cooling?

Thing is I don't get why it gets so hot. Theres a 12cm fan blowing in cool air from the side, a Vanted spectrum card with 2 fans on high directly beneath it. The actual HSF must be a problem I think.

Stock heatsinks are notoriously bad. My 6800gt hits 80-90.

Newer cards hsf's seem ok, it's just older ones.

I don't think it's a stock heatsink.

Even so, it doesn't look that good of a heatsink.

oops, sorry I was thinking of ATi reference heatsink. My bad.

Well it's a single slot, so it wont be the best of coolers. My X800 was similar, in the end it reached around 80c on the stock cooler. So i replaced it with a VF900, and now its around 50c :)

along with an arctic cooler and changing the fan speed settings on atiltool i never get above 50 even at full load, before that on stock i used to idle at more than that

im using a vf900cu on my current gfx card, my old 6800nu had a nv5 silencer and i can tell you that the nv5 silencer is a better cooler because it exhausts the hot air out the case.;l
