Graphics driver crash

hi, i have just got a BFG gtx285oc2 graphics card, its all installed and working now, but when i try and play a game it crashs, windows points at the graphics driver, i tried the original driver fromt he cd but then updated to nvidias latest with no difference,
i have:
Asus P6T Deluxe mboard (Brand new)
Intel Core i7 920 (brand new)
3gb corsair ddr3 (Brand new)
1tb WD SATA HDD
HX520w Corsair PSU

i thought that the PSU might not be up to the task, partly due tot he 575w requirement they state ont he box, but it says it needs 42A+ on the 12v rails which my 520 Does it has over 50A on its 3 rails..

i am concerened that it may be the card itself, i got it as an upgrade, and replacement for my aging 8800gt which i belive i busted after transplanting it into a new board, it did the exact same thing as this new card, graphics driver crashing.

i really dont want to be spending any more money i dont have :(

If i was to change my PSU what would people recommend?

download and use drivecleaner to remove all the graphics drivers then try installing the set previous to the current ones.

that psu is fine power wise, might be an issue if it has developed a fault.

have you tried it on more than 1 game ?

what game has it initially crashed on ?

Well cleared out my graphics drivers, and then installed an older version of the drivers from nvidia but everything is the same, this is a pretty fresh windows xp install,
the games ive tried are:
HL2 (inc portal, ep1/2, zombie panic source)
Fear2
Stubbs the zombie
Suppreme commander forged alliance
Bioshock
Elf Bowling 7 (yeah yeah, i know)

Most of them crash either at the main menu or withing a miniuted of loading, most invoke a bsod that shouts at the drivers a couple do a ctd, again blaming the drivers.

its really annoying and theres obviously something im missing, just wish i knew what

i hadnt actually tried dxdiag, just checked and everything is perfeectly ok acording to that, the only thing ive noticed is during any graphical test my systems power consumption (rig is connected to a power monitor) hits around 200w whereas when any game trys to run its over 250w

im thinking of trying a benchmark util see if i am capable of stress testing the graphics card without no game running, i imagine it would do the same as in a game but it might be worth a try

If you've overclocked at all, then return everything back to stock and try again (or return what you have overclocked back to stock), as thats a known cause of Nvidia driver crashing.

nah i personally havnt done any overclocking on it but it is a bfg board that is 'overclocked' compared to the standard speeds, presemably a factory overclock like that would have been checked to work...

i have just tried runing 3dmark06, they system bombed out 11.06 seconds into the benchmark, my troubleshooting knowledge is pointing to the PSU (its about a year old so maybe expecting close to full power is a bit silly) becouse every time the system hangs is when it starts demanding 250w+ of power, but then again my system took that amount with my old 8800gt installed so its not a huge amount of power...

i dunno, give me somone elses rig in front of me to diagnose and ill sort it out, but when it comes to my own i act more like a GCSE IT student :(

does anyone think maybe the card is a dud? bombing out whenever its asked to do its job? the systems started just hanging without any errors or anything requireing a restart.
