Seen a lot of posts about others res's but what kind of card would i need to play a game like world of warcraft on max settings at 1440x900 easily?

Tnx :)

Not much - even an X550 plays WoW on high settings at 1024x768 with 1GB ram and an A64 3200+. The requirements are pretty low really. A Radeon X1600Pro for £76 inc VAT will perform admirably

ok thanks for reply.

I'm playing it on 800x600 with lowest details and my pc spec is: -

1ghz amd athlon
512mb sdram
gforce4 64mb

Getting into stormwind / ironforge on wow is a nightmare. Its like 0.0000001 fps :(

Thinking of getting:-

amd 64 3700+ SD
1gb geil value
and the grfx im unsure of atm

Your new PC will be a world ahead of the old one. The X1600Pro would be a good choice IMHO for £75 - it's slightly slower than the 6600GT but a fair amount cheaper and perfect for what you need

Hmm just a quick question if im allowed.

The wow box did say minamum ram 256 / maximum 512. I have 512 but some places are unplayable !

Ill post the specs needed vrs mine, what would you say is causing me the most lag?

Minamum for WOW
# Windows Me/2000/XP (32-bit version only)
# 800 Mhz or higher CPU.
# 512 Megabytes or more of RAM.
# 32MB 3D Graphics card with Hardware Transform/Lighting (such as a GeForce 2 or better).

Mine
# Windows XP Home
# 1000 Mhz CPU.
# 512 Megabytes of RAM.
# 64MB 3D Graphics card

The minimum specs are always set as low as possible so as not to put people off when they buy the game

Memory can lead to lag, as can a slow CPU. What net connection do you have?

Pipex Xtreme 1mb.

I thought running it at everything low and at 800x600 would be ok :(

if i click alt+del and check task manager, if i play wow only with nothing in the background, its peakd at over 583mb memory. And currently running at 525mb memory :(

Tried everything like going through all services and turning them off, running windows classic mode . My desktop is 1440x900 due to my w/s tft but that shouldnt make a difference? I set the game at 800x600. (looks bad but still lags me to hell and back)

Could be because my memory is SD PC100, and they mean DDR PC3200?

If your peak is over your total ram then you are using the windows swap file which will lead to stuttering and poor performance. Upgrading your memory will help with this

In all honesty though I'd consider going A64 as SDRAM is expensive and you are throwing good money after bad

Yes, but on the box it says minamum 256 recomended 512...how can they say that when my pc has peaked at 583mb while playing wow

Thanks for the help tho this is leading a bit into memory now so wrong forum lol. Dont want to get into trouble :)

They can say that because thats as and when the product was released, and its expanded a lot since. Also, textures use a lot of ram, when there are more objects and people, and settings turned up, its bound to use more RAM, and objects and players are both on the increase.
