My machine is as described in the signature. I bought the graphics card at the time they were cheap when the new series came in - an NVidia 470. Everything has worked fine until recently though I hadn't been playing much. However, with the Steam sales I bought add-ons to Mafia II as well as games like Borderlands.
last week I started with the Mafia games and found that after about 5 minutes, with the graphics card fan screaming, the screen locked solid in what looked like CGA colours. It requires switching off and on to get the machine running again. This happens in other games I bought recently, but not, oddly with GTA IV and its add-ons.
Using GPU-Z I have monitored the temperature of the graphics card and found to runs at about 85 - 87C when gaming, either with GTA IV or the other games.
Any suggestions with this? I have had the hoover in there to remove accumulated dust and am running with the side off for extra cooling. The CM Storm case has 120mm fans - 1 input, 1 out at the back and 1 blowing out of the top of the case - all running normally.
Any ideas? I would be very grateful for some help on this. Thanks
