Graphics options in COD advice please

Hi Im using a Viewsonic 20" TFT with a native screen res of 1680x1050. In COD (game of the year edition) and COD2 I cant get this res to show (neither do I have an option for anisotropic settings).
In CDO2 demo I was able to edit the config file OK and get these settings to show but COD doesnt appear to have a config file!

Is this for multiplayer or single player? as far as I know both configs are in the Main > Players folder, unless that's something different.

CoD is Quake3 engine so you can just use:

r_customwidth "1680"
r_customheight "1050"
r_mode "-1"

I found it main I dont seem to have a player folder. I edited it :
seta r_customheight "1050"
seta r_customwidth "1680"
but it still doesnt show in graphics options.

look for another var, something like 'r_custom=0'. it won't be that exactly but something like it and it'll be set to 0. i don't think the custom settings shows in the options, rather it will just boot up in the custom res from the very start.

edit: i've just done a google, i read that 'r_mode -1' will tell the game to use the custom settings.

edit: on cod1 on this computer I have't actually played Sp so that's why there's no "save" folder and the second config file.
