Graphics or other issue?

Ok, ive had a radeon x1950xt master card in my pc for a while and then decided try something different and got a GeForce GTX 285.

The problem is im having the same issues with the GeForce as the Radeon.

The issue is this. I can play Modern Warfare 2 no problem, but every so often the screen goes black (no bsod). It just goes black, freezes up my pc so i have to restart manually. This has happened for the past few months now. also i tried stalker:cop and fallout 3 and they also crash but not always with a black screen.

I am running windows xp up to service pack 3 (3.5 wont install for some reason)
4gb Ram
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.6GHz

Any one have any ideas or know how i can test and resolve this?

What power supply are you using? Are the other crashes a blue screen or does the screen just freeze as it was? - Have you tested your ram with memtest?

there's a service pack 3.5?

As above, check PSU, memory, also are you using a sound card?

yeah im using a soundcard.
soundblaster xfi extreme gamer

and yeah i think it is 3.5 for the sp. not sure. will check when i get home from work.
