Graphics problem in original Far Cry

Sorry, i'm new to this forum and was unsure whether to post this here or in the graphics forum.

I'm not sure if the problem is hugely common but I know it affects others. Here it is exactly:

I left this comment regarding it:

"I have this exact same problem, I have a Geforce 8600 GTS card, and vista 32 bit. I have the up to date drivers. I noticed that when you change all the graphics settings to 'low' the problem is partially solved but it's still barely playable. What I really want to know is does the same thing happen in the full game or just the demo? I'm considering getting the game but obviously I won't if this happens in it."

Here is another example of this problem:

Since leaving that post on youtube I have picked up a copy of the full game (was only a couple of quid on amazon so I thought what the heck), hoping that this problem would not occur in the most recent version of the game, but unfortunately it did.

Does anyone know how this is fixed, and if so please bear in mind that I am a bit useless with PC's so I'd need a fairly patronising explanation of how it is fixed :D

I have a fresh install of farcry, the full version, and it looks fine. I'm running on 64bit Win7
I have an ATI card, so if it's a geforce driver issue that won't be of any help to you.
Edit: did the post above fix your problem?

I just been playing farcry (steam version) for about 30minutes with no problems in windows 7 64bit with Nvidia 191.07 drivers

You need to patch it, I remember the game being the same for me - it won't work with cards later than GeForce 5900 and Radeon 9800s apparently on the retail/demo version.

You might be able to tweak the fog settings in the advanced tweaking application (not ingame) I remember seeing stuff for changing vertex fog, etc.

Or just patch it.

Out of interest, is the Steam version at 1.4? I seem to remember the 1.4 patch being multiplayer improvements that completely messed up the singleplayer somehow.

Yeah, I stopped enjoying the single player when they applied the multiplayer weapon and movement behaviours to it. :( You could only sprint for a few seconds, and the sniper rifle was annihilated and useless in single player.

Oh oh. Do you have any more info on this? I have just reinstalled FarCry and it's the 1.4 version. It's not the steam version, but a DRM free version from GoG.com.

Well there was a mouse support issue where the mouse worked in menus but not in game. That very much killed it for me.

I didn't play long enough to see the balance issues KNiVES mentioned. There was also an issue with the AI becoming superhumanly good which a lot of people had.

I patch as far as 1.33 when I install it now but my DVD is pretty scratched, so I wouldn't mind it on Steam.

Oops. my bad. Thank you for your responses but I actually sussed the 'problem' myself, I installed the patch  :p

I thought when I installed it initially that it would automatically install the most up to date version but you need to explore the disc and install the v1.4 patch. It works perfectly now.

Whew! That's good to hear.

In 1.4 the AI can see you through tents and shoot you through them without you being able to see them. It's annoying in some levels, very annoying, but once you pass those buggy places it's ok, I mean it only happens rarely.
